For mums on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit breastfeeding isn’t straightforward. In fact feeding in general isn’t straightforward.

There has been a lot of breastfeeding talk over the last week. Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for premature or sick babies. Unfortunately though this is often given via a tube into the baby’s tummy. This means mums have to express breast milk which is difficult and time consuming. Currently the NICU at Royal Oldham only has 5 breast pumps which in comparison to 37 cots is just not enough. making it harder for mums to express when they need to. Please support our Just Giving Campaign for Breast Pumps to purchase more hospital grade breast pumps for the unit.
